Elda Evelyn (Witte) was born January 5, 1916, at the farm home in Lac Qui Parle county. She attended School District #50. After graduating from Bellingham High School in 1933, she went on to teacher's training in Madison. She taught at District #62 from 1937-1940 and at District #51 from 1940-1942.
On June 16, 1941, she married Alfred Von Eschen at the Zion Parsonage in Bellingham. Attendants were Bill and Eleanor Witte. After a trip to northern Minnesota, they went to live on the Von Eschen family farm until the fall of 1942, when they moved to their own farm where Elda lived for over 65 years.
There were two children born to this union: Howard, who passed away suddenly in September of this year, and Joel of St. Cloud, MN.
Elda was a member of Salem Evangelical Church, Zion EUB of Bellingham, Yellowbank Evangelical Church and Tabor United Methodist Church. Church work included: Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School, Boys and Girls Fellowship, Treasurer of UMW, Church Treasurer, as well as active in UMW, Circle II Fellowship Bible Study, and Study of Christian Symbols. She also liked doing cross word puzzles.
Preceding Elda in death were her parents, William and Martha (Wendland) Witte; her five brothers, Art, Marvin, Ralph, George, and Bill; four sisters, Maria, Mabel, Myrle, and Mildred; son Howard.
Elda is survived by one son, Joel, as well as many nieces and nephews.
