Elaine Lorene (Renie) Kiernat was born on March 15, 1934 to parents Jens Peter (J.P.) and Lilly Hegge Larson on the family farm in Big Stone Township, MN, where she lived a very happy childhood. Renie graduated from Ortonville High School in 1951 and attended one year of business school in Minneapolis.
On October 6, 1952, Renie was united in marriage to John Edmund (Ed) Kiernat at St. John's Catholic Church in Ortonville. To this union two children were born. They made their home in Ortonville and together they started Kiernat's Inc., with Community Cable being the primary focus.
After retirement, Renie and Ed traveled extensively, but her main pleasure was the time she spent with Ed and their children and grandchildren.
In her spare time, Renie volunteered at St. John's Catholic Church and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed working crossword puzzles, crocheting, boating, and planting flowers.
Renie passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2012 at the Ortonville Hospital, having reached the age of 78 years.
Cherishing her memory is her husband, Ed; her daughter, Diane (Brad) Rieck; her grandchildren: Sara (Nolan) Fetters and Derek (Meghan Nelson) Rieck; her great-grandchildren: Daunte and Brantley Fetters and Haylee Rieck; and her brother, Johnny (Arlene) Larson, all of Ortonville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Renie is preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jeff Kiernat; her sisters: Verna Scott and Dorothy Hoxtell; and her brother, Arlo Larson.
