Effie was born on January 15, 1914, in rural Strandburg, SD, the daughter of Ivan and Lydia (Dahlberg) Lundquist. She attended Troy #3 country school through the eighth grade. Effie attended Strandburg High School for two years and graduated from Watertown High School in 1933. Effie was united in marriage to George C. Anderson on October 13, 1934, in the Tabor Lutheran Church in Strandburg. Following marriage, the couple lived in Watertown for six years. In 1940 they moved to Effie's childhood farm home southwest of Strandburg where they lived for twenty-six years. They later lived on a farm east of Strandburg for eight years. In 1974 they moved to Strandburg. George died on February 3, 1995. Effie continued to live in Strandburg with the exception of living with her son Kenneth and daughter-in-law in Watertown for six months prior to entering Jenkins Living Center on April 6, 2006.
She was a life-long member of the Tabor Lutheran Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school, was a pianist and was active in church women's groups and circle. Effie was also a past 4-H leader. She loved music and played the piano by ear. She was always busy with her hands, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and quilting. Effie loved caring for children. She was truly the matriarch of her family-always there for them.
Survivors include two daughters, Carol Fischer and husband Bruce, Iowa City, IA; Shirley Robish and husband Allen, Strandburg; two sons, Kenneth Anderson and wife Darla, Strandburg, and Vernon Anderson and wife Jan, Carrington, ND; twelve grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; 1 great, great grandson; four sisters-in-law, Pearl Lundquist, Strandburg; Elsie Jones and Nettie Sawyer, both of CA; and Hazel Anderson, of WA; and many, many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband George, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Jean Marie Anderson; four sisters, Alice Lundquist (died as a young girl), Sarah (Sally) Williams, Edna Lisantti, and Inez Johnson; and three brothers, Ivy, William, and Sidney Lundquist.
