Visitation will be held on Wednesday evening from 5 ? 8 at the Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville and will continue one hour prior the service time at the church. Interment will be at Mound Cemetery in Ortonville.

Edna Mary was born on a hot summer day, July 21, 1916, to Edward and Mary Deal, on a farm southwest of Ortonville. For the next few years they lived in many places, including Ortonville and Clinton. During the first years of her life, Edna?s father helped lay tiles for the railroad. When she was five they moved to a farm southeast of Clinton and started farming. Edna had to walk over one and a half miles to attend school at district 12. It was a one room school. During the first years they had up to 45 pupils during the winter months. After finishing grade school, Edna went to high school in Clinton, and then in Ortonville.

On January 20, 1934, Edna married Edwin Julius Boldenow of Chokio, MN. They lived with his mother until fall, when they rented a farm in Malta township and started farming on their own. Times were hard then, and no crops were harvested. Ed and Edna had ten children: Edward, Carol, Donna, Roger, Dwight, Sheila, Cherylene, and Candice. They lost two children, Donald (twin to Donna) and Dennis, who drowned in a stock tank at 21 months.

In 1944, after ten years of moving often, they bought a farm located in Odessa township. A rough time in Edna?s life was the five years she spent fighting cancer. Due to the cancer follow-up program at the University of Minnesota Hospital, she was able to get past the next five years, cancer free.

In February of 1957, Edna had the privilege of representing Big Stone County and her local Farmer?s Union on a bus trip to Washington, D.C., to visit congress and many points of interest in the history of our country. She made many friends during this time whom she kept in touch all these years.

In 1957, Ed and Edna celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary and the marriages of their daughter Carol (Melvin) and their son Roger (Diane) later that year.

1961 was a special year for Edna. She had joined a Bible class the year before, and in February she came to know Jesus Christ as her personal savior. Her life changed because of this, and she?s been involved in teaching the scriptures ever since. Their family started attending Lutheran Evangelistic movements winter conferences and summer camps. They made many friends and it was a time of spiritual growth for them.

After 43 years of farming, Ed and Edna retired in 1977, sold their personal property at an auction, and moved into a new home on December 17, 1977, in Ortonville, MN. It rained hard most of that day. By night in spite of the rain the house in town was in order ? all made possible by the help of family.

Since the move to Ortonville, they kept busy with R.S.V.P. and playing in the whist marathons since it started. Edna became active in the Christian Women?s Club as a guide and telephone chairman. Then she volunteered for the Income Tax Program. She was active in the senior citizens club. They joined the group shortly after the move to town.

On June 10th, 1984, Ed and Edna celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on a beautiful June day. Many relatives and friends were there to make it a special event.

Soon after retiring, her family began to spend a week together at the lake. It has been a pleasant time for them all, and a way to get to know the grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

The last few years have been hard for Edna, due to Ed passing away February 4, 1994. Carol and Melvin are near and helped her with shopping and appointments. Edna?s family would like to thank all her friends who dropped by to visit and take her to dinning and church.

On April 4th, 2004, Edna Mary (Deal) Boldenow passed away, reaching the age of 87 years, 9 months, and 14 days.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edwin; two sons, Donald and Dennis Boldenow; three brothers, Donald, Harold, and Robert Deal; one daughter, Donna Boldenow; one grandson, Bradley Boldenow; one daughter-in-law; Diane Boldenow; and one grandson-in-law, Joseph G. Francis, Jr.
