Edna Josephine Bergland was born on October 4, 1916, to Elias Gjert Dalseth and Johanna Bertina Gjengdahl Dalseth in Clinton, Minnesota. She was baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Clinton. Edna attended and graduated from Clinton High School after which she worked as a librarian until her marriage.
Edna was united in marriage to Rowland (Rollie) Bergland and they were blessed by more than 61 years together. Three children were born to this union: Sally (Ken) Fischer, Pastor Beth (Tim) Smart, and Rodger (Judy) Bergland. They raised their children in Big Stone City where she worked as a cook at the school once the children were older. During that time she was a member of Tabor Evangelical United Brethren Church and played the organ and piano for the choir. Edna and Rollie later moved to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, moving back to make Northridge Residence their home when health issues arose.
Edna's greatest joy was her family. She loved attending family functions and had a wonderful gift for writing words of inspiration in the many cards and letters she sent to her loved ones. Other interests included the pride she took in caring for her home in her earlier years, baking the world's best brownies, lefse and other goodies and taking the grandchildren on numerous trips to parks like Como Zoo. Her family has many fond memories of the holidays where they all gathered at the Bergland home in St. Paul. Edna loved going to church suppers, especially if lutefisk, lefse and desserts were being served.
Being a part of the Northridge family was a treasure to her. Edna was so thankful for the wonderful care she received. She thoroughly enjoyed her bingo games, bowling, the musical activities, and all the ways the staff made her feel special. The "lady friends" that shared Edna's table meant so much to her and added much enjoyment to her mealtimes.
Edna joined her Lord on March 16, 2013 after a short illness. She died peacefully at Northridge Residence in Ortonville, Minnesota at the age of 96 years.
Edna is survived by her children and their spouses; one sister, Genevieve Dalseth Stern, of Sacramento, CA; one cousin, Elaine Davis, of Minneapolis, MN; twelve grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; 22 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Edna in death was her husband, Rollie; two brothers: Earnest Dalseth and Myron Dalseth; two sisters: Gerda Dalseth and Lucille Dalseth Arman Hitchuck; three great grandchildren; and one son-in-law, Arvin Conrad.
