Duane Gustav Stock was born on May 3, 1930, in Odessa, MN, to parents, Gustav and Dorothea (Kolkman) Stock. As an infant, Duane was baptized on June 1, 1930, in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Odessa. Duane was later confirmed into the Lutheran faith on April 2, 1944, at the Lutheran church in Odessa.
As a young boy, Duane attended school in Odessa and graduated from Odessa High School in 1948. Following his graduation, Duane worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for four years as a depot agent and telegrapher. He then attended the Gale Institute in Minneapolis and also the School of Banking in St. Olaf and Morris, MN. Duane's banking career started in 1953 at the Citizen's National bank in Canby. Duane and Donna then moved to Carlos where he worked at the First State Bank for five years. In 1959, Duane joined Tri-County Bank as Assistant Cashier and left as Vice President in 1984. After finishing his banking career, he embarked in a joint venture in purchasing Club 7/75 and retired in 1990.
On August 11, 1950, Duane married Donna Meyer at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Bellingham, MN. The couple made their home in Canby, MN, following their wedding and also lived in Carlos and Odessa, MN; Big Stone City, SD; and finally Ortonville, MN.
In his spare time, Witzy enjoyed participating in baseball, fast pitch softball, bowling, billiards, and golfing especially with his family. Wednesday mornings were spent with his buddies playing cards. Witzy loved the outdoors and took advantage of every opportunity to hunt and fish. He cherished spending time with family and friends and tending to his flowers. Witzy was a member of the 21 Club, JC's, Kiwanis, and also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. He will be missed by all who loved him and called him friend.
Duane passed away on Monday, April 30, 2007, at the Ortonville Hospital in Ortonville, MN, reaching the age of 76 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustav and Dorothea; his wife, Donna; a daughter, Debbie; a son, Danny, two brothers, Bernard and Art and a his best friend Lloyd Hughes.
Duane is survived by his children, Randy Stock of Big Stone City, SD; Kris (Harlan) Tande of El Cajon, CA; Cherie (Steve) Bauer of International Falls, MN; and Jay Stock of Ortonville, MN; five grandchildren, Brett and Tara Tande and Keegan, Caitlin, and Bryn Stock; seven great-grandchildren, one sister, Lil Knutson, as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
