Services for Dorothy Hurlbut will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, September 27, 2013 at the United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Browns Valley with Rev. Anna Williamson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Dorothy Jane Miner Hurlbut, age 92, was born on August 7, 1921 at Huron, South Dakota to James and Bertha (VanArsdale) Miner. She was next to the youngest of seven children. Dorothy attended a rural country school and graduated from Huron High School. After graduation, she attended business school and worked at a bank in Watertown, South Dakota.
Dorothy married Tracy Mutchler on April 8, 1943 in Reno, Nevada. They moved to Browns Valley in December of 1947.
Dorothy married Clinton Hurlbut on October 2, 1976 in Browns Valley. They celebrated thirty years of marriage prior to his passing on March 16, 2007. In February 2010, Dorothy moved into the Browns Valley Health Center.
Dorothy worked as a bookkeeper for the Inter-Lake Cooperative Creamery Association. She was an active member of the United Methodist Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed reading, knitting, playing cards, and watching the Minnesota Twins.
Dorothy is survived by her son Greg (Pam) Mutchler of Duluth, MN; daughter Pam Mutchler (friend Virginia Hameister) of North Branch, MN; stepson Ron Hurlbut of Browns Valley, MN; and stepdaughter Mary (Bill) Hermanson of Eleva, WI; five grandchildren, Todd Mutchler, Stacie (Chris) Dudy, Ryan Hurlbut, Kelli (Dan) Rinehart and Thor Hermanson (fiancee Holly); and two great-granddaughters, Samantha and Alexis Dudy.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clinton; her three brothers: Robert, James, and Donald Miner; and her three sisters: Elizabeth Dickson, Helen Schmidt, and Josephine Henderson.
