Dorothy Laverne Larson was born on January 24, 1921, to Jens Peter and Lillie (Hegge) Larson at their farm house north of Ortonville. She was baptized and later confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Ortonville.
From the age of five until the end of the eighth grade, Dorothy attended school in the District 63 schoolhouse. In 1953, she started high school in Ortonville and graduated in 1939, after which she attended Teacher's Training Class, also in Ortonville.
As the teacher of School District 63, to which the Hoxtell families belonged, Dorothy met Dale Hoxtell to whom she was married on October 31, 1942. After farming for about 18 years, they moved into Ortonville where Dorothy worked various jobs. She babysat for several families, worked as a floral assistant at the Ortonville Greenhouse, a clerk at Penny?s catalogue department, Activities Director at Parkview Nursing Home and lastly served as the first Coordinator of the Ortonville Senior Citizen's Center. Dorothy was a member of the First English Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for 20 plus years, served as Lector and Lay Assistant, and spent many days helping serve for funerals and other church functions.
Throughout her life, Dorothy loved gardening, playing cards, sewing, crocheting, embroidery, flower arranging, cake decorating, baking, and in her later years, being a grandmother. Volunteering and reaching out to people was a key part of all her life's activities. Dorothy passed away on March 17, 2008 at the Ortonville Hospital.
Dorothy is survived by her four children and spouses; Lyle Hoxtell and Linda Chalby of Fergus Falls, MN, Kay and Ray Slivnik of St. Louis Park, MN, Peggy and Ray Anderson of Bowlus, MN, and LuAnn and Brian Streed of Wheaton, MN; grandchildren, Carissa Hoxtell, Lethe Hoxtell, Shane Slivnik, Ryan and Amy Slivnik, Paul Anderson, Hannah Anderson, Jamie (Streed) and Rodd Beyer, Matthew and Taryn Streed, Dana (Siebert) and James Steele, Kari (Siebert) and Christopher Winter and Amy Siebert; 11 A�A½ great-grandchildren; brother Johnny (Arlene) Larson; sisters, Vera Scott, Lorene ( Ed) Kiernat; sister-in-law, Inez Larson; special cousin Leda (Dick) Trebil and other family and many friends. Preceding her in death were her husband; son, DuWayne; parents; brother, Arlo Larson; and daughter-in-law, Linda (Carlson) Hoxtell.
