Dorothy Harrison

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, November 11, 2013, at Elim Lutheran Church in Clinton, MN with Rev. Richard Larson officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial is in the Clinton City Cemetery.

Dorothy Marie (Ludwig) Harrison was born in Kelso, North Dakota on August 15, 1909, to Vincent and Mary (Rust) Ludwig. One of 12 children, 8 boys and 4 girls, she outlived all her siblings. She completed her schooling at Bohnsack Country School, graduating from the 12th grade in 1928.

Dorothy married Simes Harrison in 1935 and they shared just short of 65 years together. Simes died in February, 2000. Together they had two sons, Glenn, now deceased, and Lowell, living in Luverne, MN with his wife Shirley. Dorothy has three granddaughters, Kristi, Maria and Teresa, as well as six great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was a member of Elim Lutheran Church, holding many offices as well teaching Sunday School for 25 years. She was a scout leader, a charter member of the Clinton Civic Club and a volunteer for 32 years at the Good Samaritan Home, now Providence Center, where she enjoyed helping others. She was a long time member of Eastern Star. For many years following their retirement Dorothy worked with Simes making quilts and delivered them to Mexico's poor each winter. They traveled south each winter for about 28 years.

Over the years, Dorothy was the coolie grandmother to all kids that lived on her street, an honor she thoroughly enjoyed. Dorothy sold her home and became a resident of the Clinton Care Center in April 2003. Her good friends and neighbors were there with her and she saw this location move as nothing but a positive. Dorothy also resided briefly in Ortonville, then back to Clinton, and came to the Grace Home during the summer of 2006 following a bout with pneumonia. She always enjoyed the activities of the respective homes, visits and coffee with friends. We give thinks for all who cared for her and kept her in their prayers all these years.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Lowell (Shirley) Harrison of Luverne, MN; granddaughters: Kristi (Troy) Nielsen of Fargo, ND; Maria Kremin of Sioux Falls, SD; and Teresa (Preston) Treat of West Fargo, ND; and 6 great-grandchildren.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents; husband Simes; son, Glenn; and 11 siblings.
