Funeral services for Mrs. Dorothy M. Grabow, age 83, of Milbank, and formerly of rural Twin Brooks, SD, will begin at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 9, 2006, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. The Reverend James L. Wiese will officiate. Dorothy died on Sunday, March 5, 2006, in St. William's Care Center in Milbank. Family members are asked to meet in the church chapel by 10:00 a.m. Thursday to attend services. The organist will be Carol Ydstie and the soloist will be Roger Smith. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Wednesday from 4-6 p.m. and will continue in the church on Thursday one hour before services. Honorary pallbearers will be her grandchildren and great grandchildren: Ben Elder, Megan, Chase, Ty, and Tia Grabow, and Colten and Brody Sherod. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Chad Sherod, and Todd, Scott, Talon, Cody, and Josh Grabow. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.
Dorothy was born on July 6, 1922, in Lac qui Parle County, MN, the daughter of Otto and Lena (Goetsch) Redepenning. She attended Adams No. 3 country school through the eighth grade. Dorothy then helped her parents on their farm. She later worked at the Madison CafAC. in Madison, MN, the St. Hubert CafAC. in Milbank, the Manor Motel in Milbank and the Big Stone Canning Factory. Dorothy was united in marriage to Harris G. Grabow on Sept. 29, 1945, in Milbank. Following marriage, the couple farmed in rural Twin Brooks, SD. Harris died on May 6, 1999. In 2001, Dorothy moved to Friendship Circle in Milbank. Dorothy entered St. William's Care Center in Milbank on October 28, 2004.
She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. Dorothy loved her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, and playing cards with family and friends.
Survivors include her five children, JoAnn Brewer and husband Leon, Rapid City, SD. Daryl Grabow and friend Chris Smith, Black Hawk, SD; Shirley Elder and husband Ron, Emerado, ND; David Grabow and wife Lori, Oslo, MN; and Wayne Grabow and wife Rita, Milbank; ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren; four sisters, Lillian Meister and husband Leonard, Milbank; Violet Borgerson and husband Dwight, Bellingham, MN; Florence Christensen and husband Butch, Willmar, MN; and Loretta Folkerts and husband Orville, Minneapolis, MN; three brothers, Jim Redepenning and wife Jean, Ames, Iowa; Cliff Redepenning and wife Jackie, Ortonville, MN; and Don Redepenning and wife Marion, Minneapolis, MN; sister-in-law, Marlus Redepenning, Bellingham, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one sister Gladys Redepenning, and two brothers, Vernon and Larry Redepenning.
