Memorial services for Doris Schwagel will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2011 at 10:30 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Browns Valley. Visitation will be held on Friday, July 15, 2011 from 6-8:00 PM at Larson Funeral Home in Browns Valley. Father Joe Vandeberg will be officiating and burial will be at St. Anthony's Catholic Cemetery in Browns Valley.
Doris Ruth Klodt was born on August 21, 1925 in Foster Township, Traverse County, Minnesota, to parents Fredrick and Sophia (Swayze) Klodt. She attended school in Barry and Browns Valley, MN, graduating in 1943 from Browns Valley High School.
On July 12, 1952, she was united in marriage to Arved "Dutch" Schwagel. To this union, three children were born: Linda, Mark and Carol.
Doris worked as a Rosie Riviter in Seattle, Washington, as well as many other jobs in the Valley area including: Hazel Cafe, Valley Bakery, Dakota Handcrafts, The Keg and various other jobs. She was a 50 plus year member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Doris enjoyed quilting making; providing her warmth and love for many family and friends. She also enjoyed embroidering; crocheting and she had a great love for music. Doris treasured special times spent with her family, often welcoming into her home those who were unable to be with their own families during the holidays.
Doris passed away on Wednesday, July 13, 2011; at the age of 85 years, ten months and 22 days.
Doris is survived by her three children: Linda Schwagel of Browns Valley, MN, Mark Schwagel of Glyndon, MN and Carol (Rick) Ankeny of Hartford, SD; two grandchildren: Shawn Ankeny (Special friend Jessica Grona) of Fort Worth, TX and Miranda Ankeny (Chris Jacobs) of Sioux Falls, SD; two great-grandchildren: Jaiden and Liberty Jacobs of Sioux Falls, SD; one sister Norma Frounfelter of Wheaton, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
Doris is preceded in death by her husband Dutch; her parents; three brothers: Dale, Roy and Frederick Klodt and one infant sister, Evelyn.
