Doreen Esther (Streich) Schultz was born on August 27, 1929, in Madison, MN, to Arthur and Ida “Agnes” (Heipler) Streich. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Arena Township of Lac qui Parle County, MN. Following her formative years in Marietta, MN, she proudly graduated with the Class of 1948.
On the milestone of her 20th birthday, Doreen was united in marriage to her beloved husband, Maurice Schultz, at Zion Lutheran Church. Together, they established their home on a farm near Revillo and farmed on the Schultz Family homestead. Their marriage was blessed with two sons and one daughter, who became the center of Doreen’s vibrant life.
As her children ventured off to college, Doreen embraced a new chapter in her professional journey, dedicating 29 years to the Grant-Deuel School Lunch Program. This role allowed her to touch the lives of many students, nurturing them with her warmth and care.
A devoted member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Revillo, Doreen actively participated in the Ladies' Aid, LWML, Sunday school, and the youth group, embodying her faith through service and community. Later, upon moving to Milbank, she became a beloved member of Emanuel Lutheran Church.
Doreen’s passions were many. She was an avid gardener, cultivating thriving gardens until her 94th year. She took great joy in watching sports, first cheering for her children during their school days and later following local teams and professional events with spirited enthusiasm. A woman of many talents, Doreen was also known for her love of playing cards, reading, fishing, and accompanying family on hunting outings.
Her culinary skills were unmatched, and she was particularly famous for her homemade buns, a delightful treat that will be remembered fondly by family and friends.
Left to cherish Doreen’s memory are her children: Quentin (Marilyn) Schultz of River Falls, WI; Bradley (Laurie) Schultz of Pierre, SD; and Nancy (Wayne) Meyer of Revillo, SD; five grandchildren: Monica (Tony) Bylander, Heidi (Ryan) Englebert, Eric (Samantha) Schultz, Liz Schultz (Andrew Tschosik), and Logan Meyer; eight great-grandchildren; sisters: Frieda Johnson, and Elna Jerde; along with many nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Maurice in 1990; grandsons: Andrew Schultz, and Adam Schultz; brothers: Alvin Streich and his wives, Grace and Virginia, Gerhardt (Gladys) Streich, and Herbert (Marilyn) Streich; sister, Caroline (Warren) Erp; brothers-in-law: George Johnson, and Doug Jerde; and sisters-in-law: Lila (Jacob) Kramlich, and Lois (Garry) Baun.
