Donna Jean Roder was born on March 4, 1935 in Ortonville, MN to parents Charles A. and Edna (Sackreiter) Roder. Donna was baptized on April 7, 1935 and was confirmed on May 28, 1950 at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. Donna attended school in Ortonville where she graduated from Ortonville High School in 1954.
On December 26, 1954, Donna was united in marriage to Robert Thompson at First English Lutheran Church in Ortonville. To this union, they were blessed with three sons: Charles “Chuck”, Greg, and Mark “Elmer.”
Donna enjoyed staying home caring for her family. She would help Bob when he needed, whether it was driving tractor in the fields, milking cows or controlling their three boys. She faithfully watched and attended her grandchildren’s sporting events. Donna enjoyed babysitting, especially for her grandchildren.
She was a Sunday school teacher for many years at Eidskog Lutheran Church and also First English Lutheran Church. She was a Hospice Volunteer for 20 years. Donna had a love for collections, she had three of her own: horse figurines, doll dishes and tea cups and saucers. Donna also enjoyed quilting and flea markets. She would make “special pancakes” for her grandchildren and mints for any special occasion.
Donna passed away on Wednesday, July 21, 2010 at Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD; she had lived to reach the age of 75 years.
Donna is survived by her husband Robert “Bob” of Ortonville; Sons: Chuck (Carol) of Ortonville, Greg (Patricia) of Ortonville, Mark “Elmer” (Sheila) of Ortonville; grandchildren: Nicole (Mike) Lovgren of Ortonville, Tim Thompson of Ortonville, Dan Thompson of Ortonville, Nathan (Leana) Thompson of Lakeville, MN, Natasha Thompson of Ortonville, Shane Thompson of Ortonville, RaeAnn Thompson of Ortonville, Riley Thompson of Ortonville; great-grandchildren Ava and Chase Lovgren of Ortonville; sister Idella Ross of Ortonville; sister-in-law Barb Roder of Olympia, WA; special niece Jean (Russ) Wall of Victoria, MN; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents Charles and Edna and brothers: Dale and Don Roder.
