Funeral services for Donald L. Nordquist, age 69, of LaBolt, S.D., will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 6, 2006, at the LaBolt Covenant Church. Pastor Mark Chapman will officiate. Don died on Thursday, November 2, 2006, at his home. Family members are asked to meet in the church basement by 10:30 a.m. Monday to attend services. The pianist will be Verla Peterson and the soloists will be Lynn Nordquist and Paul Peterson. The Minutemen will also provide special music. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. Visitation will continue in the church on Monday one hour before services. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren: Andrew, Anthony, Alex, and Annie Leonard, Katie and Taylor Lieffort, and Sam, Landon, Josiah, Noah, and Lydia Nordquist. Burial will be in the LaBolt Cemetery. The family requests that memorials be directed to the LaBolt Covenant Church or to the American Heart Association, Dakota Affiliate, Inc., P.O. Box 1287, Jamestown, N.D. 58401.
Donald Leon Nordquist was born on October 4, 1937, at Beresford, S.D., the son of Einer and Gladys (Briggle) Nordquist. He graduated from Beresford High School in 1956 and moved to Milbank. Don was united in marriage to Lucille Berg on June 27, 1959, at LaBolt. They moved to LaBolt in October 1960. He was the bookkeeper for McGowan Lumber Co. in Milbank from 1960-1972. Don also owned and operated LaBolt Petroleum Service from 1970-1993. After selling the petroleum service, he and Lucille became managers of the LaBolt Mini-Mall.
He was a member of the LaBolt Covenant Church and was currently serving as the LaBolt Town financial officer. Don was a past member of the school board in LaBolt and a past church treasurer and board member.
Survivors include his wife, Lucille, LaBolt; his four children, Cheryl Leonard and her husband Brad, Miller, S.D.; Kristine Lieffort and her husband Robert, Brookings, S.D.; Todd Nordquist and his wife Lynn, Richwood, Ohio; and Brad Nordquist, Red Oak, Iowa; eleven grandchildren; his sister, Karen Bennett and her husband Noel, Omaha, NE; his brother, Jim Wiese, Beresford, S.D.; his sister-in-law, Pat Nordquist, Watertown, S.D.; and several nieces and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Duane.
