Donald Hout

Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, September 27, 2013, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Big Stone City. Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday evening from 5 – 7 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 7 p.m. Burial will be in the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery.

Honorary bearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Casket bearers will be: Kyle Van Hout, Michael Van Hout, Daniel Van Hout, Andrew Van Hout, Isaac Hauser, and Joe Scoblic.

Music will be provided by Lonie Rausch, keyboard; the St. Charles Funeral Choir; and Tim Mundwiler, vocalist.

Donald Richard was born on May 31, 1935, in Ortonville, MN to parents Richard F. and Laura (Steltz) Van Hout. Don grew up in Ortonville where he was an altar boy and in the Boy Scouts as a youth. He met Arvene Stodolski and they united in marriage on November 3, 1956, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Big Stone City.

Don was a member of the Big Stone City Fire Department (26yrs) and the Ortonville unit of the Minnesota National Guard (23yrs). He was an active member of St. Charles parish as a Eucharistic Minister, Lector, and Usher. Don also served his community as a member of the city council for eight years.

Don was a family man first, finding great joy in spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed hunting, ice fishing, golfing, gardening, camping, and downhill skiing. Most of all, he enjoyed any activities that involved his children as well as playing with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife Arvene, three sons, James (Darcy) of Rapid City, SD; Dean (Sue) of Castle Rock, CO; Mark (Selena) of Bismarck, ND; one daughter, JoLynda Hauser (Joel) of Raymond, MN. Fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren also survive. A sixth great grandchild is expected in a few weeks.

Don was called Home on September 24 at the Ortonville Hospital after battling illness for several years. Preceded Don in death was his parents; sisters, Patricia, Lauraine, Elisabeth, and a sister at birth, brother Daniel, and granddaughter Hillary.
