Funeral services for Donald J. Brown, age 75, of Ft. Collins, CO, will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2008, at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank. The Reverend N. Craig Werling will officiate. Don died on Saturday, March 15, 2008, in his home. The organist will be Carol Ydstie and the vocalist will be Deb Rausch. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Saturday one hour prior to services. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery with graveside military rites presented by the Stockholm-Strandburg American Legion Post #171. Pallbearers will be family members. Don's family requests that memorial donations please be made, in lieu of flowers, to the American Heart Association.
Donald James Brown was born on September 18, 1932, in Milbank, the son of David Frank and Annette E. (Dragt) Brown. He grew up in rural Milbank and farmed for a living. Don served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was united in marriage to Lillian Doris Ulrich on February 18, 1956, in LaBolt, SD. Don was active in the Stockholm-Strandburg American Legion Post #171. Don and Doris moved to Fort Collins twenty-four years ago. He worked in construction and drove a tanker truck for local dairy farms prior to retiring. In his retirement Don enjoyed being the neighborhood handyman and friend to those around him. Doris died on March 18, 1999.
Survivors include his daughter, Faye Matthies, and husband Ron, Lakewood, CO; his son, Kevin Brown, Ft. Collins; his granddaughter Brittany: his two brothers, Frank Brown and wife Mary and Robert Brown and wife Joyce and his sister Bernice Pauli, all of Milbank.
