Funeral services for Don F. Lardy, age 75, of Milbank, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 16, 2006, at the American Lutheran Church in Milbank. The Reverend Craig Werling and the Reverend Janine Rew-Werling will officiate. Don died on Tuesday, June 13, 2006, at his home in Milbank. Carol Ydstie will be the organist and pianist. The soloist will be Carole Walford and a trio composed of Ruth Modin, Shirley Thorson, and Howard LaMee will present special music. Visitation will be at the American Lutheran Church in Milbank on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. and in the church Friday one hour before services. Pallbearers will be his four grandsons, Jordan and Zach Lardy and Ryan and Casey Amans, and Rick Oakes and Bob Holbert. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery with graveside military rites presented by the Birch-Miller American Legion Post #9 and the Grant County VFW Post #3486 of Milbank.
Don was born on January 14, 1931, in Webster, SD, the son of John and Inga (Rasmussen) Lardy. He attended school in Roslyn, SD, and Webster, SD.
He served his country in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War from Oct. 31, 1951, until his honorable discharge on Oct. 30, 1955. Don received the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. Following his return to Roslyn, he worked in construction.
Don was united in marriage to Orlean Monson on October 5, 1957, in Webster, SD. The couple lived in Milbank where he was employed at Milbank Implement and Service Chevrolet until 1982. He then worked for FOK and United Hardware until his retirement in December 1995. Don was a member of the American Lutheran Church and the Birch-Miller American Legion Post #9 of Milbank. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening.
Survivors include his wife Orlean; one daughter Pamela Amans and husband Dave, Eau Claire, WI; three sons, Scott and Angela, Garretson, SD, Kevin and Anita, Blair, NE, and Dale, St. Cloud, MN; eleven grandchildren; one brother Eugene Lardy and wife Joyce, Roslyn, SD; one sister Gertrude Cooper, Fargo, ND; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Mardell, and his brother Jerome.
