David Merlin Tietjen was born on October 17, 1945, to Merlin and Vera (Bohlen) Tietjen. He always loved machines and making them work. He fostered this during his early years on the farm. He attended Wilmot High School; but after a family farm move, he graduated from Corona High School in 1963. David attended S.D.S.U. in Brookings, SD, for one year and then began employment as a sales representative with New Holland. In 1974 he moved to Amboy, MN, and became an owner of a farm implement dealership. He retired at the age of forty-eight from Amboy Implement, Inc.
He wintered in Dallas, TX, and remained close to his Midwest friends and family ties during the summers.
Dave made the most of life by spending time with his family and fostering his faith in Christ. He also enjoyed downhill skiing, traveling, biking, camping, boating, genealogy, and the Texas drawl. Dave's hobby was working with many types of motorcycles, snowmobiles, cars, and trucks. He fixed, rode, and tinkered with them his entire life. Whether he came to visit, or vice-versa, you could count on him being prepared to know about and go to many different festivals, attractions, and fairs. He especially enjoyed the 4th of July celebration.
The fun Dave had, the family bonds he built, and the Christian faith he stood firmly upon, will be forever remembered as his legacy.
Survivors include his two daughters, Ann Purrington and husband Scott and their children, Ryan and Lindsey, of Stillwater, MN, and Pam Torkelson and husband Kurt and their children, Bethany, Olivia, and Joey, of Fergus Falls, MN; his brother Dalton Tietjen and wife Mary Jo and their daughter, Kari, of Lincoln, NE; and numerous and dear aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Shirley Van Overschelde and her family.
