A Mass of Christian Burial for David Andrew Koch, 34, of Milbank, will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 9, 2009, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Father Ken Lulf will be the celebrant. David died peacefully on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at his parent's home. The organist will be Nancy Johnson and the St. Lawrence Funeral Choir will provide special music. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Sunday from 4-7 p.m., with a prayer service for family and friends to follow. There will be reviewal in the church on Monday one hour prior to his funeral mass. Pallbearers will be Daniel Koch, John R. Koch, James P. Koch, Ray Kub, Andrew Kub, Francis Kub, Jim Koch, Jeff Koch, John Koch, and Jack East. Burial will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery.
Memorials may be directed to the Children's Miracle Network or St. Jude's Research Hospital in Memphis, TN.
David was born on December 24, 1974, in Milbank, SD, to Charles and Dorothy (Kub) Koch. He graduated from Milbank High School in 1993 with four years perfect attendance. He attended USD and Black Hills State University. He worked at grocery stores in Milbank, Vermillion and Spearfish. His summers were spent working at Mt. Rushmore and Wall Drug. He began working for COSTCO in Sacramento, CA, in March, 2001, and transferred to Des Moines, IA, when a COSTCO opened there.
David was diagnosed with an inoperable brain stem tumor in October of 2005 and received radiation and chemo in December, 2005. He continued to work until August of 2006. He returned to Milbank in January, 2007.
David loved the Badlands and Spearfish Canyon,
the Phillies, attending concerts, the Simpsons, and
his collection of Hawaiian shirts.
Survivors include his parents, Charles and Dorothy Koch of Milbank; three sisters: Anne Baland and husband Timothy, Anoka, MN; Sarah Laddusaw and husband Blair, Omaha, NE; and Laura White and husband Bradley, Minneapolis, MN; one brother, Aaron Koch, Brooklyn, NY; and his niece and nephew, Ella and Luke Laddusaw, Omaha, NE.
