David Buck

David Frederick Buck, age 80, of Sartell, MN, formerly of Ortonville, MN, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. 

Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 4, 2024, at 12:00 p.m. at Shepherd of the Pines Lutheran Church in Rice, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday, with military honors and lunch to follow. 

David Frederick Buck was born on November 30, 1943, in Milbank, SD to Frederick and Inez (McGee) Buck. He was baptized and confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church, in Wilmot, SD. After attending school in Wilmot, SD he enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1961. He was stationed in Fort Carson, CO in 1962. His service was complete in 1969. 

In 1967 he married his first wife, Frances Swiehart and had 2 sons, Dean and Michael. In 1980 he married Rita (Althoff) Pearson on November 28th in Milbank, SD. They made their home in Big Stone City, SD and Ortonville, MN. They recently moved to Sartell, MN in 2022. They were blessed with 5 wonderful children, 10 grandchildren, and 1 great-granddaughter. David worked many different jobs over the years, including construction, Madison Foundry, Prairie Correctional Facility, and retired from Runnings in Milbank, SD in 2021.

David worked hard and loved deeply. He enjoyed spending time with his beloved wife traveling and enjoying life. Spending time with family brought him joy. He was extremely proud of his grandchildren and children (in that order).He loved people. He was the guy that would open his wallet and show the pictures of all his people that he held dear. He was very proud of his country, and never complained. He saw the good in everything. He loved to play games, fish, and help anyone who needed it and even if they didn't, he was there with helping hands and conversation. 

David will forever be loved and greatly missed by his wife of 43 years, Rita; sons: Dean (Lisa) Buck of Watertown, SD; and Michael Buck of Sioux Falls, SD; daughters: Candace (Jeremiah) Dingmann of Royalton, MN; Amy (Tim) Winter of Gilman, MN; and Serina (David) Stockoski of Sartell, MN; grandchildren: Steven; Jordan (Lindsay); Preston;  Summer (Colton); McKenzie (Levi); Gabby;  Ashley; Waylon; Lilyth; and Mia; great-granddaughter, Cora; father-in-law, Earl Althoff of Waubay, SD; brothers: Donald Buck of Grand Forks, ND; and Jim (Judy) Buck of Watertown, SD; sisters-in-law: Earlene (Harlan) Wickre of Rochester, MN; Sheryl (Terry) Town of Waubay, SD; and Lisa (Robert) Ryan of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers-in-law: Dennis (Nancy) Althoff of Superior, MT; Dwight (Becky) Althoff of Waubay, SD; Ryan (Traci) Althoff of Watertown, SD; Gary (Tatiana) Althoff of Waubay, SD: and Gordon Althoff of Waubay, SD; and many nieces and nephews. 

David was preceded in death by his parents; infant brother; sister, Emma Jundt; brother-in-law, Cifford Jundt; niece, Sarah Town; and mother-in-law, Serine Althoff.
