Daniel Hanratty, age 69, of Ortonville died Monday, September 28, 2015, at his home in Ortonville.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, October 17, 2015, at 11 a.m. at St. John's Catholic Church in Ortonville. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the church.
Daniel John Hanratty was born on August 22, 1946, to Edmund and Mary (Parker) Hanratty in Graceville, Minnesota. He graduated from Ortonville High School in 1964. Dan received his Bachelor of Science degree from St. Cloud University in 1968. On April 26, 1969, Dan and Susan Verheul were united in marriage and together raised two daughters, Kristi and Sarah.
Dan worked for the Mattel Toy Company in Minneapolis from 1968 – 1971. The family moved to Carlos, Minnesota in 1972, where Dan was the manager of the Sears Catalog Center. In 1976, Dan, Sue, and their children moved back to Ortonville and he started his career with Big Stone Family Services, where he served as a child protective officer for the communities of Ortonville and Benson. In 1981, he joined Morris Rodweeder in Ortonville as the personnel manager. Returning to Family Services in August of 1988, Dan became the Director of the Family Services Center. He retired in 2007.
Dan enjoyed fishing and boating on his beloved Big Stone Lake, hunting, and especially loved vacationing with his family. Every morning found him heading into town to buy the Star Tribune newspaper so he could read it and keep up with current events.
Cherishing his memory are his wife, Sue, of Ortonville; daughters: Kristi (Philip) Schlup of New Zealand, and Sarah (John) Marte of Milaca, MN; five granddaughters: Ella Elizabeth, Lucy Charlotte, and Eva Violet Schlup, and Madeline Elizabeth and Grace Violet Marte; sisters: Eileen (Dick) Voltz, of Minneapolis, MN; Bonnie Hanratty Kindt, of Ortonville; Marie (John) Bergwall, of Ortonville; and Connie (Kent) Novak, of Ortonville; and brothers: Jerry (Ann) Hanratty, of Ortonville; John Hanratty, of Ortonville; and many, many beloved nephews and nieces and great-nephews and great-nieces.
Dan is preceded in death by his mother, Mary; father, Edmund; granddaughter and angel in heaven, Ella Elizabeth Schlup; brother, Joseph; nephew, Mark Verheul; and niece, Valerie Verheul.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests the donation be made to Make A Wish Foundation.
