Dale Rieck

Dale Rieck, age 77, of Big Stone City died on August 16, 2017, at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Services will be held on Monday, August 21, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ortonville, Minnesota. Rev. Dennis O’Neill will officiate.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 20, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at Mound Cemetery in Ortonville.

Casket bearers will be: John Wiik, Joe Wiik, Brian Frevert, Cory Schmieg, Matt Grabow, Gerald Carlson, Jacob Hanson, and Allan Jorschumb.

Honorary bearers will be: Sara Rieck-Fetters, Derek Rieck, Savannah (Carlson) Hughes, Lateesha Rieck, Eric Carlson, David Rieck, Daunte Fetters, Ashlynn Rieck, Brantley Fetters, Haylee Rieck, Larkyn Hughes, Brynleigh Rieck, and Hunter Carlson.

Music will be provided by Pat Kunz, organist.

Dale Rieck was born at his home on May 21, 1940, in Beardsley, Minnesota. He was the son of Harold Rieck and Mildred (Lorraine) Chilson. Dale grew up near Beardsley, MN, and attended school in Beardsley.

Dale was united in marriage with Kay Wood on June 5, 1958, in Wheaton, MN. Together they were blessed with 59 years of marriage and three children: Kim, Brad and Curt.

Dale worked as Certified Nursing Assistant at Wheaton Nursing Home, in road construction and also at the Big Stone Cheese Factory. However, he spent the majority of his career as an over the road truck driver. He found joy in his family, and was his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s number one fan. He loved attending the grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s events and was always there to support and cheer them on.
In addition to spending time with family, Dale also enjoyed watching car racing and working on semi-trucks. Dale was a member at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ortonville, and he will always be remembered as being happy and a jokester.

Dale is survived by his wife, Kay Wood of Milbank, SD; daughter, Kim (Danny) Carlson of Big Stone City, SD; sons: Brad (Diane) Rieck of Ortonville, MN; and Curt (Dianna) Rieck of Burnsville, MN; sisters: Judy (Gerry) Sudman of Sparta, WI; Linda (Robert) DeFrance of Minneapolis, MN; and Kerry Rieck of Minneapolis, MN; brother, Glen (Diane) Rieck of New Market, MN; 6 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gary.
