Colby was born on April 23rd, 1987 in Wheaton, MN to parents Gary and Rebecca (Weick) Simonson. He was a 2005 graduate of Clinton-Graceville-Beardsley High School and was currently attending Minnesota West Community and Technical College in Granite Falls, MN. Colby was working for Gilsdorf Farms in Graceville while attending college in Granite Falls full-time.
While not working or in school, Colby occupied his time with many interests including hunting, fishing, shooting pool and snowmobiling. He was also a great fan of number "3" "The Intimidator," Dale Earnhardt Sr., as well as being a fan of Orange County Choppers. Colby thoroughly enjoyed driving in the local demolition derbies.
Colby was very generous, never too busy to help others and was well liked by all who met him. A simple "hi" would never do when meeting people. He would always stop to talk and visit with them. He was often "adopted" into many of his friend's families. In order to keep in touch with his friends, his cell phone was always within arms reach; in fact he often slept with it close by just in case someone called.
Colby passed away Sunday, January 8th, 2006 at the Holy Trinity Hospital in Graceville, MN. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Dorathy Simonson, grandparents Gerald and Dorothy Minahan, and uncles; Lee and Kevin Simonson.
Survivors include his father, Gary (Kim) Simonson; mother, Rebecca (John Schmidgall) Simonson; sister, Candace Simonson; step-brother, Shawn Murphy; and step-sisters, Sarah, Emily, and Elissa Murphy. He is also survived by his paternal grandfather, Alfred Simonson; maternal grandparents Warren and Carol Weick; Floyd and Vila Schmidgall, Leroy "Butch" and Joyce Doll; aunts, Geraldine (Donald) Diekmann, Jeanne (Mike) McManaman, Julie (Pat) Campion, Wanda (Doug) Andrews, and Theresa (Doug) Diekmann; uncles, Rod Simonson, Mark (Marie) Simonson, and Kevin (Jeannie) Weick; cousins, Doug, Lynn, Kim, Tracy, Tonia, Kerry, Deidre, Dusty, Tyson, Cody, Katee, Ryan, Sarah, Kasey, Kelsey, and Andrew; and many friends.
