Funeral Services for Clifford Thompson will be held on Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Eidskog Lutheran Church in rural Ortonville. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 from 5-7:00 PM with a prayer Service at 7:00 PM at Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville. Burial will be at Eidskog Lutheran Cemetery.
Clifford Oliver Thompson was born on July 29, 1921 on his family farm in Otrey Township, MN to parents Elmer and Anna (Holmblad) Thompson. Clifford was baptized and confirmed at Eidskog Lutheran Church. He attended Country School District #9 in Otrey Township until the 8th grade when he began farming with his Dad.
On January 21, 1950, Clifford was united in marriage to Lucille Roeder at the Eidskog Parsonage. To this union, they were blessed with six children. They made their home on a farm in rural Ortonville. There, Clifford farmed. They lived here for 59 years before moving into an apartment in Ortonville.
Clifford was a devoted family man. He was very active in all of the events that his children and grandchildren were involved in. He never liked to miss family functions, his family meant the world to him. Clifford had a great sense of humor, he was always willing to crack a joke.
Clifford enjoyed traveling and going for rides with Lucille. He lived life to the fullest and never took anything for granted. Clifford was not materialistic, his friends and family meant a lot to him, and he loved life and was full of fun.
Clifford was very active in Eidskog Lutheran Church where he was a lifelong member. He was also on the Big Stone Co. Fair Board for over 30 years. Clifford farmed his whole life, he loved to be outside. Clifford loved his kitties. He would feed all of the stray cats and even found a two week old kitten that he nursed to health.
Clifford passed away on Sunday, July 10, 2011 at Northridge Residence in Ortonville, MN. He had lived to reach the age of 89 years, 11 months and 10.
Clifford is survived by his wife of 61 years Lucille of Ortonville, MN; son Gary (Joan) Thompson of Cassville, MO; daughters: Kathy (John) Athey of Hutchinson, MN, Debra (Terry) Brunder of Deer River, MN, Joanne (Steve) Bissett of Austin, MN and Carol Meeker of Louisville, KY; 12 Grandchildren; 11 Great-grandchildren; brothers: Ervin (Arlys) Thompson of Ortonville, MN and Robert Thompson of Ortonville, MN; and many nieces and nephews.
Clifford is preceded in death by his parents; one son Curtis; sisters: Annetta Park, Florence Carlson, Adelia Knutson, and Alice Paul.
