Funeral Services for longtime rural Corona, South Dakota farmer, Clayton T. Zeigler, age 97, of Milbank will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, June 29, 2007, at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Milbank. Reverend James L. Wiese will officiate. Clayton died on Saturday, June 23, 2007, at the St. William's Care Center in Milbank. Kristy Tostenson will be the organist, and Katharine Vlach will be the soloist. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Thursday from 5-7 p.m. and one hour before the service on Friday. Family members are asked to meet in the church chapel by 10:00 a.m. Friday to attend the service. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mr. Zeigler's seven grandchildren: Neil Zeigler, Brent Zeigler, Grant Christianson, Timothy Zeigler, Travis Christianson, Marit Hanson, and Katharine Vlach.
Clayton was born on March 22, 1910, in Roberts County, South Dakota, the son of Rudolph and Rose (Schaell) Zeigler. He attended Geneseo #2 country school. He was a lifetime resident of Roberts County where he was a farmer and eventually took over his father's farm.
He was united in marriage to Clara Akerson on April 22, 1933, at Rosholt, South Dakota. Following marriage, the couple resided in rural Corona. Clayton served as a board member for the Geneseo School and was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church, where he faithfully attended services. Prior to his death, he was currently the oldest member of the congregation. One of his special pleasures was fishing. Clayton entered St. William's Care Center in May of 2005.
Survivors include one son Glen and his wife Marianne, Sioux City, Iowa; one daughter, Janet Christianson and her husband, H. Giles, of Spicer, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and one brother-in law, Ralph Frerichs, Milbank. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rudolph and Rose; his wife, Clara; a daughter, Jeanie; and one sister Myna Frerichs.
