Christina H. Tannehill, age 85, of Milbank, and formerly of Corona, SD, died on Sunday, July 5, 2009, at St. Williams Care Center in Milbank. It was her wish that she be cremated and that her cremated remains be scattered at Skyview Memorial Lawn in Vallejo, CA. There will be no visitation. There will be a Memorial Mass at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 8, 2009, at St. William's Chapel in Milbank.
Christina was born on April 11, 1924, in Corona, SD, to Jerry and Jurena (Veen) Janssen. She attended school in Corona through the eighth grade. In 1951 she married John Tannehill and they moved to California where she worked all of her adult life. In August 1960 they adopted three children, William, Ricco, and Marita, to complete their family. Both William and Ricco had muscular dystrophy. After raising her family, she decided to move back to Corona in 1981 where she purchased a house. Because of ill health, her son Ricco joined her in 1982. In 2003 Christina entered Beverly Healthcare in Milbank and then became a resident of St. Williams Care Center in 2005.
Survivors include her daughter, Marita Ross, and husband Tony, of Rapid City, SD; her sister, Dorothy Reyelts, Mount Vernon, MO; her sister-in-law, Janice Janssen, Milbank, SD; her aunt, Mable H. Veen, of Sioux Falls, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband John, she was preceded in death by two sons, William and Ricco Tannehill, and three brothers, Norbert, George, and Edward Janssen.
