Memorial services for Charles "Chuck" Dirden, age 74, of Milbank, and formerly of Webster, SD, will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 4, 2009, at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank. The minister will be Robert Willcock. Charles died on Friday, October 30, 2009, at the Dialysis Center in Ortonville, MN.
It was Charles' wish that he be cremated. There will be no visitation. Disposition of his cremated remains will be by his family at a later time.
Charles was born on May 8, 1935, in Michigan City, Indiana, to Robert and Laura Belle (Keeler) Dirden. He attended school in Michigan City.
He was united in marriage to Patricia Conklin on May 25, 1968, in Chicago, Illinois. Following marriage, the couple resided in Chicago, Illinois; Round Lake, Illinois; Algoma, WI; Webster, SD, from 1976-81; Algoma, WI, from 1981-1996; Webster, SD, 1996-2007; and moved to Milbank in November 2007. At that time, Charles became a resident of the Golden Living Center in Milbank.
He owned a roofing business in Algoma, WI. While living in Webster, he worked as a machinist at the Marine Johnson Foundry and Machine Shop.
Charles liked ships and nautical things. He also loved old cars.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia, Milbank, SD; four sons, Matthew Dirden, Green Bay, WI; Michael Dirden, Milbank, SD; Derek Dirden, Sioux Falls, SD; and Charles Price and his wife Chutes, Green Bay, WI; two daughters, Olivia Zwick, Milbank, and Darlene Ebert and husband Doug, of Fremont, NE; twelve grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
