Charles Bartz, age 71, of Ortonville, MN, died August 28, 2014, at his home.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 2, 2014, at 2:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Ortonville with Rev. John Ragan officiating the service. Visitation will be held at Mundwiler & Larson Funeral Home in Ortonville on Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and will continue for one hour prior to the time of service at the church on Tuesday.
Casket bearers will be Clyde Weros, Mike Danielson, Heith Sherod, Steve Hennen, Mel Wiese, and Scott Schneider. Honorary bearers are all of Charlie's fellow Moose members, and hunting and fishing buddies. Music will be provided by Tonya Barnhardt. Burial will be in Mound Cemetery in Ortonville.
Charles William Bartz was born on August 7, 1943, in Ortonville to Charley and Pauline (Schwartz) Bartz. He was confirmed at the Drywood Lutheran Church, known today as the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, in rural Appleton. When he was young, Charles lived near Artichoke Lake. He attended country school through the 8th grade, and then graduated from Appleton High School.
On October 12, 1963, Charles was united in marriage to Verda Floy Kleespie at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Appleton. To this union, they were blessed with three children. After marriage, he worked for 3M in Hutchinson. In 1975, Charles and Verda moved to Ortonville. Charles owned and operated numerous businesses in Ortonville including the Hilltop Theatre of Seasons and the Vali Vu Motel. He also had a lawn mowing service in the area. Charles was a member of the Ortonville Moose Lodge #407 and the Zion Lutheran Church in Ortonville. In his early years, he enjoyed going to dances with Verda. He especially loved to go hunting and fishing.
Charles died on August 28, 2014, at his home in Ortonville, having reached the age of 71.
Charles is survived by his wife Verda Bartz of Ortonville; children: Christin (Nicki) Bartz of Ft. Meyer, FL; Jonathan (special friend Robin) Bartz of Ortonville; and Nikole (Ryan) Kehnle of Ortonville; two grandchildren: Makenna and Quinlan Kehnle; sister Katherine Adolph of Watertown; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Fern Muller; brothers-in-law: Ferris Muller; Floyd Adolph; grandson Jacob Riley; and one niece.
