Carol Schaefer

Funeral services for Mrs. Carol Schaefer, age 90, of Wilmot, SD, will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, June 18, 2007, at the First Presbyterian Church in Wilmot. The Reverend Eldon DeBoer will officiate. Carol died on Thursday, June 14, 2007, at the Wilmot Care Center. The pianist will be Tara Anderson and the soloist will be Ken Cameron. Visitation will be at the church in Wilmot on Sunday from 5-7 p.m. Visitation will continue in the church in Wilmot on Monday one hour prior to services. Pallbearers will be Roger Green, Dr. John Campbell, DVM, Del Strasser, Tyler Ammann, Marlyn Lindahl, and David Loup. Burial will be in the Osceola No. 1 Cemetery at Marvin, SD.
Carol was born on August 12, 1916, in Hurley, SD, the daughter of Nels and Kristina (Kusk) Christensen. At the age of three, she moved with her parents to rural Twin Brooks, SD. Carol attended country school in Mazeppa Township and graduated from Milbank High School in 1933. She was united in marriage to Jack Schaefer on June 20, 1941, in Canton, SD. Following marriage they rented a farm southwest of Summit, SD, where they resided for four years. They then moved to a farm near Marvin and lived there for nine years. The couple then purchased a farm in rural Twin Brooks where they lived for thirty-seven years. In the fall 1991 they moved to Wilmot. Carol entered the Wilmot Care Center on August 6, 2003.
She was a member of the Zion Community Church in Wilmot. Carol taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school at the Marvin Baptist Church for many years. She was also a past secretary and treasurer of the Northeast South Dakota Prayer Conference. Carol enjoyed playing the organ and the piano in church. She also enjoyed gardening.
Survivors include her husband Jack, Wilmot; two daughters, Karen Peterson and husband Lloyd, Cedar Falls, IA, and Nancy Friesen and husband Russ, Monticello, MN; one son Richard and wife Susan, Fargo, ND; nine grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren; one sister, Elizabeth "Betty" Ramsey, Milbank; and many nieces and nephews.
Her parents, three infant sons, four sisters: Donna, Helen, Elsie, and Ella, and two brothers, Arnold and Ray, preceded her in death.
