Calvin Johnson

Calvin Johnson, age 70, passed away on Friday, January 24, 2025, at the New Mexico VA Health Care System in Albuquerque, NM.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. at Mundwiler and Larson Funeral Home Chapel in Graceville, MN. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. A luncheon will follow the service at the Holy Rosary Parish Center in Graceville. Inurnment will be at Union Cemetery in Elbow Lake, MN, at a later date.

Calvin Milo Johnson was born on November 11, 1954, in Fergus Falls, MN, to Algot M. and Clarice (Forde) Johnson. He spent his early years in Elbow Lake, MN, until his family relocated to Atwater, MN, when he was 14 years old. Calvin graduated from Litchfield High School with the Class of 1973.

On June 15, 1973, Calvin enlisted in the United States Army in San Diego, CA. He proudly served for two years in Germany and was honorably discharged on June 4, 1976. After returning home, he settled in Hutchinson, MN, where he worked at the local power plant until 1979. That year marked the beginning of his passion for landscaping, a field he dedicated himself to until retirement.

Calvin had a love for the outdoors. He enjoyed camping and hiking trips, often spending winters traveling to warmer places like Arizona, Texas, and Florida. His love for nature and wildlife was an important part of his life.

He was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Elbow Lake and also the Central Lutheran Church in Fridley, where contributed to the community.

Calvin is survived by his brothers: Stephen Johnson, Wayne (Rita) Johnson, Jan Johnson, and Kevin (Kim) Johnson; his nieces and nephews: Jennifer Johnson, Gary Johnson, Eric (Kayleene) Johnson, Jessica (Jason) Llewellyn, David (Caitlin) Johnson, Kara Wood (fiancé, Patrick Cichos), Kaylee Johnson, Kaleb Johnson (fiancé, Shaylee Pekelder), Kassie Johnson, and Katrina Johnson; along with numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and brothers: Douglas Johnson, and Gary “Curly” Johnson.
