Bryan J. Mogen, age 85, of Big Stone Lake, rural Big Stone City, SD, died on Monday, August 18, 2008, at the Golden Living Center in Milbank. There will be a private memorial and his ashes will be scattered, along with those of his late wife, on the family property, which they loved so much. The Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank, SD, is in charge of the arrangements.
Bryan was born on April 28, 1923, and was raised in Waubay, SD. He attended South Dakota State University for two years and then traveled west to California to work at Lockheed Aircraft. He then enlisted in the Navy and flew a Corsair plane off the Aircraft Carrier, the Intrepid, during the last years of World War II. When the war was over, he graduated from SDSU, where he met his wife Ruth. They were married on January of 1948. Bryan joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation in 1948 and worked out of Nashville, New York City, Chicago, and Minneapolis, until moving into a field office in Aberdeen, SD. After thirty years, he retired from the F.B.I. and moved to his summer home on Big Stone Lake. Bryan's loves were his wife, his daughters, his grandchildren, his land, his music, and his stories.
Bryan was preceded in death by his wife of sixty years, Ruth (Norgaard), who died last November, his parents, and one brother. He is survived by his daughters, Kim Mogen (Don Frankfort), Hot Springs, SD; Myla VanderAarde (Bill), rural Big Stone City, SD; and Jill Mogen, Seattle, WA, and their families, which include seven grandchildren, Charlie, Sarah, Mychal, Sam, Thomas, Sean, and Kathryn, and two great grandsons, Calvin and Billy. His nephew, Dr. Mark Mogen and wife Karen and family, Aberdeen, SD, were also very special to him. He is also survived by three brothers, Philip (Darlene) Mogen of Albuquerque, NM; Iro (Suzanne) Mogen, Yankton, SD; and Chris (Kathy) Mogen, of Aloha, OR.
