Beverly Foss

Beverly Ann (Karges) Foss, age 81, of Milbank SD passed away peacefully on January 26, 2023, in Tucson, AZ.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Central Church in Milbank, SD, visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church, followed by burial along with her husband Verne Foss at the Milbank City Cemetery in Milbank, SD. After the burial, the family welcomes you to the church for food and fellowship.

 Beverly was born September 3, 1941 in Milbank SD, the 2^nd daughter of Melford and Genevieve (Knipple) Karges.  Beverly grew up and attended school in Milbank SD, graduating with the class of 1959.

Beverly was united in marriage with Verne Foss at an early morning ceremony in Milbank SD on June 18, 1961 and instantly became mother to Verne’s four children: Theresa ‘Terry’, Gary, Steven and Angela.  To their union, four more children were born: Daryl, Cheryl, Karla, and Joan.  She was blessed raising 8 children.

Beverly worked at St. William’s Nursing Home while in high school (1957-1959), Milbank Mutual Insurance Company (1959-1963), was a daycare provider, bookkeeper for Foss Repair, and manager/bookkeeper at Foss Refrigeration Sales and Service (1976-1986), four more years of providing daycare (1986-1990) and retirement in 1990.

Beverly was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Milbank, SD, chairman of Fellowship and various services for many years including Collection Funds (42 years).  Her community service included Milbank Lion’s Club (25 years), 4-H leader, member of Old Mill Twirlers (31 years), member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary (2011-present) and a volunteer at the Community Thrift Store. 

Beverly adored her grandchildren, caring for them and spending time watching their activities.  She loved roller skating in her youth at Mel’s Funland which was owned by her family, dancing, card playing, camping, sewing, spending time with family and friends, and traveling for many years after retirement spending winters mostly in Arizona.

Beverly is survived by her children: Gary (Vicki) Foss of Hermosa, SD; Steven (Bridgett) Foss of Rapid City, SD; Angela (Barry) Olson of Grand Rapids, MN; Daryl (Lana) Foss of Harker Heights, TX; Karla (Jim) DeVaal of Milbank, SD; and Joan Braesch of Rapid City, SD; son-in-law, Neil Pauli of Twin Brooks, SD; 28 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; sister, Charlotte Mitchell of Tucson, AZ;  sister-in-law, Dorothy Foss of Watertown, SD; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Beverly was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Verne Foss of 59 years (2020); daughters: Theresa ‘Terry’ Malkerson (2017) and Cheryl Pauli (2019); son-in-law, Kerry Malkerson (2017); sister, Marlys Karges Kelly (2022); brothers-in-law: Asa Kelly (2005); Jerry Mitchell (2009); and Merl Foss (2011).

The family prefers memorials to be given to It Only Takes A Spark and VFW Auxiliary.
