Bertha Frevert

Bertha Margaret (Hanks) Frevert was born on October 13, 1911, in Wall, SD, to parents, Charles and Ida (Tielman) Hanks. Bertha was welcomed into the family by her four older brothers and sisters, and Bertha, would later welcome home a younger sister. As a young girl, Bertha attended school in Wall, SD, and graduated from Wall High School in 1929.



Following graduation, Bertha did day work for relatives, cleaning and helping with the children, and many other tasks. While helping a relative, Bertha was given the opportunity to come to Big Stone City, SD, where she met Raymond Frevert. On August 26, 1938, Bertha and Raymond were married by Pastor Booth at the United Methodist Parsonage in Big Stone City, SD. The couple made their home on a farm near Big Stone Lake and were blessed with seven children.



Bertha was a hard working farmwife, and enjoyed working alongside her husband. With seven children, she became very skilled as a seamstress. She also enjoyed tending to her garden and as well her flowers. Bertha's true joy in life was her family, she treasured the time spent with her children and grandchildren and every visit with them was special. Bertha also had a special place in her heart for her dog Squirt as well as her Beta fish, Flipper.



Bertha passed away on Wednesday, October 26, 2005, at the Ortonville Hospital in Ortonville, MN. She had reached the age of 94 years. Bertha is preceded in death by her parents, Charles, and Ida; husband, Raymond; brothers and sisters, Alma Shackelton, Everett Hanks, Earl Hanks, Ada Wilkie and Julia Burnett.



Bertha is survived by her seven children, Barbara (Robert) Jindra of St. Michael, MN, Charles (Norma) Frevert of Big Stone City, SD, Roger (Ann) Frevert of Big Stone City, SD, Carol (Calvin) Myers of Yakama, WA, Marilyn (Rick) Pettit of Anchorage, AK, Linda (Scot) Licht of Rapid City, SD, and Mark (Barbara) Frevert of Aurora, CO; twenty one grandchildren; thirty-five great grandchildren; as well as many other nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
