Funeral services for Mrs. Berniece A. Koch, age 92, of Milbank, will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 30, 2007, at the American Lutheran Church in Milbank. Reverend Craig Werling will officiate. Berniece died on Thursday, June 28, 2007, at St. William's Care Center in Milbank. The organist will be Carol Ydstie and Jonathan Ydstie will be the soloist. Visitation will be at the church on Saturday one hour before services. Pallbearers will be Tom Aho, Harvey Schaefer, Charles Benting, Paul Sinclair, Boyd Sussex, and Charles Meyer. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery. The Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home of Milbank was in charge of the arrangements.
Berniece was born on August 20, 1914, in Milbank, South Dakota, the daughter of Tom and Nellie (Saeger) Nordquist. Berniece was baptized in the Lutheran faith in September 1914 and was confirmed on October 16, 1927 in the Salem Lutheran Church. She graduated from Milbank High School in 1933. Berniece was united in marriage to Forrest R. Koch on October 12, 1935, in Watertown. The couple moved to Revillo on May 22, 1938, and remained in business there until 1956 at which time they moved back to Milbank. Berniece was a clerk at the J.C. Penny's Store and Wilson's Department Store in Milbank for seventeen years. Her husband Forrest died on December 31, 1988.
Berniece was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Milbank. She was a charter member of the Hospital Pink Ladies. Berniece enjoyed knitting and volunteering at the Thrift Store.
Survivors include her sister, Doloris Peterson, rural Milbank; one sister-in-law, Betty Nordquist, Milbank; one niece, Janet Morris, Watertown, SD; one nephew, Dennis Nordquist and wife Suzanne, Milbank; and special friends, Tom and Joan Aho, rural Wilmot, SD.
Her parents, husband Forrest, brother Amer Nordquist, and brother-in-law, Orville Peterson preceded her in death.
