Bartholomew Balthasar Heck was born on August 24, 1921, on his parents farm near Barry, MN, to John and Anna (Ehrnst) Heck. Bart was baptized and confirmed into the Catholic faith. He attended country school near Barry, MN, and following his education, he began helping his father and brothers on the family farm.
Bart met Antonella "Nella" Seifert in Graceville, and the couple was married on May 9, 1950, at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville, MN. Together the couple made their home on a farm near Barry and they were blessed with ten children; Mary, Barbara, Catherine, Robert, Bernard, Mark, Anita, Peter, Paul and Ann.
Bart loved life on the farm and cherished all it had to offer. Not only did he raise grain, but Bart also took on the time consuming job of raising dairy cattle. Bart enjoyed dancing, playing cards, watching Twins baseball, Timberwolves basketball, and Vikings football. His quiet time was spent fishing or sitting with his many cats. Bart treasured time spent with family and friends and even sometimes just sitting and visiting with strangers. His greatest love was his family and spoiling all of his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bart was an active member of the Knight of Columbus and he enjoyed participating in the Hour of Adoration prayer group. He will be truly missed by those that loved him and called him friend.
Bart passed away on Monday, September 17, 2007, at the Grace Home in Graceville, MN, reaching the age of 86 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Anna; wife, Nella; a daughter, Catherine Heck; granddaughter, Karen Schmidt; grandson, Riley Jorschumb; and three brothers, Bernard, Joseph, and John Jr.
Left to cherish Bart's memory are his five sons, Robert (Nadine), Bernard (Kathy), Mark, Peter (Shelly), and Paul (Deb); four daughters, Mary (Paul) Geurts, Barbara Heck (JR Halverson), Anita (Dave) Schmidt, and Ann (Keith) Jorschumb; twenty grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; three brothers, Richard, Thomas & Edward; one sister, Theresa DiBrito; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
