Barbara Carlson

Funeral services for Barbara J. Carlson, age 69, of Willmar, MN, will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2006, at the Vinje Lutheran Church in Willmar. Visitation will be Sunday from 4-7 p.m. at the Harvey Anderson Funeral Home in Willmar. Barbara died on Thursday, August 3, 2006, at her home in Willmar after a three-month battle with cancer. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 8, 2006, at the Tabor Lutheran Cemetery in Strandburg, SD. The Reverend Elmer P. Brinkman will officiate.
Barbara was born on September 22, 1936, in Brookings County, SD, the daughter of Rolland and Cecil (Mennis) Lane. She grew up on the family farm and attended rural school district #60 in Brookings County. Her family moved to Brookings in 1949 and Barbara graduated from Brookings High School in 1953. She attended nursing school at SDSU. While at SDSU, she met Verne Carlson and they were married in Brookings on September 17, 1955. Following marriage they lived in Pierre, SD, and in Albert Lea, MN, before moving to Willmar in 1959.
She was a member of the Vinje Lutheran Church where she served as a member of the Altar Guild and taught Sunday school. Barbara also served as a Cub Scout Den Mother. She was dedicated to her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She especially enjoyed her four grandchildren. Barbara also liked spending winter vacations in Arizona, researching family genealogy, music, the computer, reading, and sewing.
Survivors include her mother, Cecil Lane, White, SD; her husband Verne; two daughters, Julie Henry and husband Scott, Roseville, MN, and Lori Ketola and husband Harold, Independence, MN; one son David, Willmar; four grandchildren, Jessica and Kate Henry and Keith and Kelly Ketola; one brother Brian Lane and wife LaVon, Brookings, SD.
Her father preceded her in death.
