Funeral Services for Avis Von Eschen will be held on Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Tabor United Methodist Church in Big Stone City, SD. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the church on Tuesday. Pastor Iva Laudermith will be officiating and burial will be at Mound Cemetery in Ortonville, MN.
Avis Evelyn Mielitz was born on January 4, 1925 in Alban Township to parents William E. and Helen L. (Giese) Mielitz. Avis grew up in Alban Township, Grant County, South Dakota where she attended country school until the 8th grade.
She was united in marriage to Donald Von Eschen on June 23, 1949 by Rev. Otto Gehring at the EUB Church in Big Stone City, South Dakota. To this union, they were blessed with two sons: Dale and Dean. They made their home in Yellowbank Township, Lac Qui Parle County. Here, Avis helped with the family farm and raised her sons.
Avis especially loved flowers and working in her garden.
Avis resided on the family farm until September 18, 2009, when she moved into the Northridge Residence in Ortonville. She remained there until her death on June 30, 2011. She had lived to reach the age of 86 years.
Avis VonEschen is survived by her sons: Dean (Kerry) VonEschen of Ortonville and Dale (Cindy) VonEschen of Ortonville; 4 grandchildren: Darin VonEschen of Big Stone City, SD, Jodi VonEschen of Minneapolis, MN; Susan (Jody) Pillatzki of Ortonville, MN and Sarah (finance Jeff Bergseth) VonEschen of Sioux Falls, SD; 5 great-grandchildren; 4 step-great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law Arlene Wiese of Correll, MN and Irene (Vernon) Henkelman of Correll, MN.
Avis is preceded in death by her parents William and Helen Mielitz; husband Donald in 2003; brother Donald Mielitz; sister-in-law Marilyn Mielitz; and brother-in-law Rutherford Wiese.
