Funeral services for Augusta C. Rabine, 86, of rural Strandburg, will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 10, 2007, at the Tabor Lutheran Church in Strandburg, SD. Reverend Elmer P. Brinkman will officiate. Augusta died Tuesday, November 6, 2007, at her daughter Delores' home in Strandburg. Kathy Granquist will be the organist, and Paul Peterson will be the soloist accompanied by Verla Peterson. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Friday from 3-5 p.m. Visitation will continue in the church on Saturday one hour before services. Pallbearers will be Rodney Ludwig, Clinton Rabine, Doug Petersen, Todd Rufer, Steve Brugman, and Rusty Rabine. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Augusta was born January 2, 1921, in Clear Lake, South Dakota, the daughter of Henry C. and Augusta (Zoellner) Klemm. She was baptized and confirmed in the Hidewood Evangelical Lutheran Zion Church in Deuel County, South Dakota. She attended school in Clear Lake and graduated from high school in May of 1939. She resided in Clear Lake until her marriage to Hilliard Rabine June 8, 1939. Following her marriage, the couple moved to a farm in Grant County southeast of Strandburg. They lived there throughout their married life. Hilliard died March 3, 1970. After his death, Augusta worked at MidTex for three years in Watertown and for 22 years at Minnesota Rubber. She retired in 1996 and enjoyed spending her free time helping out at Rufer's General Store in Strandburg.
Augusta was a member of Tabor Lutheran Church at Strandburg, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She also served on the Strandburg School Board. She loved her role as a housewife and mother. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, and traveling.
Survivors include five daughters and two sons: Barbara Meier and her husband Oscar, Egan, SD; Delores Rufer, Strandburg; Carolyn Ludwig, Castlewood, SD; Arlene Brugman and her husband Douglas, Strandburg; James and his wife Connie, Goodwin, SD; Ronald and his wife Bonnie, Ellendale ND; and Gloria Petersen, Goodwin, 25 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren, five great, great grandchildren, one brother, Lyell Klemm, several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother, Henry J. Klemm, an infant son, Rodney Allen, a grandson, Richard Meier, and three sons-in-law, Mike Rufer, Keith Ludwig, and Dean Petersen.
