Funeral Services for Arline Gary will be held on Friday, September 23, 2011 at 10:30 AM at Siloah Lutheran Church in rural Graceville. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 22, 2011 from 5-7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Larson Funeral Home in Graceville. Pastor John Ragan will be officiating. Burial will be in the Consolidated Cemetery in Graceville.
Pallbearers for the service will be Scott Gary, Griffin Gary, Eli Gary, Lucas Buller, Tyler Buller, Evan Gary, Steve Gary, Brandon Gary, and Seth Gary.
Honorary Pallbearer is her Godson Nephew, Donnie Gary.
Arline Pauline (Palmer) Gary, daughter of Bert Lewis Palmer and Sophie Louise Hattendorf, was born on September 24, 1923 in Fairview Township, Oseola County, IA. She was baptized on November 23, 1923, at the Horton Zion Lutheran Church in Ocheyedan, IA, by Rev. Kallsen.
As her family moved to different farms and communities, Arline attended several elementary schools - Fairview Country School near Harris, IA; a school in Bigelow, MN; completing her elementary schooling at District 11 in Barry, MN. Arline was confirmed on August 28, 1938, at the Zion Lutheran Church in Parnell Township by Rev. Gierke. She attended high school in Graceville and graduated in 1942. In 1943 she received her teacher's certificate from Wheaton and taught school in Traverse County for several years. During the summer months she clerked at the Crowe Bros and Cregan Store in Graceville. On July 22, 1945, she married Vernon Bradford Gary, after which she became a full time housewife and mother. To this union ten children were born.
Arline found much joy in her family and friends. Her hobbies included cooking, baking, quilting, sewing, and cross stitching. She was a faithful helper in church activities.
Arline passed away on Tuesday, September 20, 2011 at Holy Trinity Hospital in Graceville. She had lived to reach the age of 87 years.
Arline is survived by her children – Douglas (Kathleen) Gary of Clear Lake, SD; Candace (Byron) Raynie of Georgetown, TX; Janet (Jerry) Leifgren of Prior Lake, MN; Cynthia (Paul) Glorvigen, of Worthington, MN: Daryl (Ginger) Gary of Georgetown, TX; Dale (Audrey) Gary of Graceville, MN; Joleen (Paul) Backlund of Horace, MN; Daniel (Carla) Gary of Sioux Falls, SD; Mary (Neal) Buller of Graceville, MN; and Dean (Dana) Gary of Moorhead, MN; her sister, Pearline Rakow of Graceville; 23 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Arline is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Vern; her grandson, Brian Maanum; and her sisters, Evelyn Gary and LaVonne Stone.
