Arlene Wallace

Arlene Phyllis Anders was born on October 11, 1925 to Daniel and Florence (Burnham) Anders in Newton, Massachusetts. Arlene attended school until the 12th grade in the Newton School District, graduating in 1943. After graduation, Arlene moved to New York City where she worked at Gimble’s Department Store.
In 1944, while at Marble Collegiate Church, Arlene met Wilford Wallace, and in 1946, they were married in the same church. Almost immediately after they were married, Wilford was stationed in Korea and needed to return to duty, leaving Arlene to stay with her parents. When Wilford returned, they honeymooned in Washington, DC.
In 1949, Arlene and her family moved to South Dakota. While there, they lived in numerous cities including Brookings and Britton while Wilford taught school and Arlene stayed home raising and taking care of the family. They continued to reside in South Dakota until 2001, when they moved to Ortonville, MN, where they could be closer to family.
Arlene enjoyed knitting, making many sweaters for local churches to send to children in need in other countries, quilting, making memory quilts, and caring for many foster children over the years. She spent time reading, playing cards with the girls, and coffee dates with her friends. Arlene was very involved with the church no matter where they were living.
Arlene died on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at Northridge Residence in Ortonville, MN having lived to reach the age of 83 years.
Arlene is survived by her husband, Wilford of Ortonville, MN; sons: Garry (Sharyn) Wallace of Great Falls, MT, Randy (Jeanette) Wallace of Custer, SD, Robert “Bobby” Wallace of Ortonville, MN, Frances Meredith Simon of Sisseton, SD; daughters: Linda Kilvington of Ortonville, MN, Stephanie Wallace of Bemidji, MN; grandchildren: Dana (Ada) Mundt of Britton, SD, Beverly (Jeff) Lush of Brandon, SD, Jason (Jessica) Mundt of Brookings, SD, Laurie Jergesen of Billings, MT, Donald Jergesen of Lewistown, MT, Jason Edwards of Rapid City, SD, Julie (Ray) Red Leaf of Rapid City, SD, Cassandra Young of Fargo, ND, Amy Odland of Aberdeen, SD, Angela Odland of Minneapolis, MN, Amber Odland of Bemidji, MN, Aaron Odland of Minneapolis, MN; great-grandchildren: Jonathon and Chase Mundt, Santagia, BreAnn and Jeffrey Lush Jr., Austin, Justin, and Dustin Mundt, Jackson Edwards, Steven, Joshua, Ray Douglas Jr, Kathryn, and Cora Red Leaf, Trace Jergesen; and many nieces and nephews.
Arlene is preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Paul; son Ronald Simon; son-in-law Alan Kilvington; and granddaughter Michelle Jergesen.
