Funeral services for Arlene H. Stengel, age 81, of rural Milbank will be held on Monday, August 13, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at the Central United Methodist Church in Milbank. The Reverend Mark Phillips and the Reverend DeVern Schwenn will officiate. The family is asked to meet in the church parlor/library by 10:00 a.m. to attend the services. Arlene died on Wednesday, August 8, 2007, at the Milbank Area Hospital/Avera Health. Interment will take place in the Milbank City Cemetery. The organist will be Janet Liebe,and the vocalist will be Ray Ogdahl. Pallbearers will be Ben VanKat, Chris VanKat, Eric Throndsen, Spencer Schultz, Tim Sprung, and Todd Sprung.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 12, 2007, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank and on Monday one hour prior to the service at the church.
Arlene Helen Sprung, the daughter of Fred and Swanetta (Iblings) Sprung was born on March 12, 1926, in Corona, South Dakota. On September 5, 1948, she was united in marriage to Daryl Stengel at the Corona Baptist Church in Corona. She and her husband farmed northwest of Milbank. Mrs. Stengel was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Merry Mrs. Extension Club, and the "Old Mill Twirlers" square dancing group. She enjoyed traveling world wide, embroidery, crossword puzzles, reading, playing cards, and spending time with family and friends.
Arlene is survived by her husband, Daryl, of rural Milbank; six children, Robert Stengel, Sioux Falls; Suzanne and husband Ken VanKat, Omaha, Neb.; Don and wife Debbie Stengel, Aberdeen, SD.; Jerry and wife Christine Stengel, Belle Plaine, MN.; Steve Stengel and Charlotte Huitt, Aliso Viejo, CA.; and Rick and wife Sunshine, Little Rock, CA.; 12 grandchildren, Stacy, Ben, Chris, Nicki, Brittany, Nick, Erica, Spencer, Miranda, Cassandra , Justin, and Brandon; one brother, Gene and wife Eunice Sprung, of rural Corona; a sister-in-law, Sylvia Konstant of Milbank and other relatives.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
