Funeral services for Arla Pinkert, age 88, of Big Stone City, South Dakota, will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Ortonville, MN. Visitation will be held at the church one hour prior to the service. Rev. John Ragan will officiate and music will be provided by Tonya Barnhart and John Ragan. Lector will be Gail Mittelstaedt. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in Alban Township.
Arla D. Pinkert, daughter of John A. and Milla L. (Dehn) Serck, was born on November 3, 1924, in her parent's home near Alvord, Iowa. She was raised on a farm and attended Country School near Tunnerville. On March 27, 1945, Arla was united in marriage to Harry Pinkert in St. John's Lutheran Church in Alban Township. To this union three children were born.
After their marriage, Arla and Harry made their life long home on their farm in Grant County. Arla was a farmwife, supporting her family in any way that was needed. She enjoyed canning, doing jigsaw puzzles, word searches, and in her younger years, playing badminton. Arla was a birdwatcher and knew all the varieties that lived in our region. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was active in the Ladies' Circle and helped serve at funeral services.
Arla died on Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Northridge Residence in Ortonville, MN, having reached the age of 88 years.
Left with her loving memory is her husband of 68 years, Harry; her children: Elroy (Jan) Pinkert of Red Wing, MN; Mavis (David) Reupke of Ortonville, MN: and Norma Pinkert of Big Stone City, SD; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Arla was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Francis and Marvin; and her granddaughter, Denise.
