Antonella Rose Seifert was born on July 31, 1929 in Searles, MN to parents Edwin and Florence (Bushard) Seifert. She grew up with her six siblings on the family farm near Graceville. Nella proudly graduated from the Graceville Catholic Academy. She met Bart Heck in Graceville and they were later married on May 9, 1950 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. To this union were born ten children; Mary, Barbara, Catherine, Robert, Bernard, Mark, Anita, Peter, Paul and Ann. Nella and Bart celebrated fifty-six wonderful and loving years together prior to her passing.
With so many children, Nella spent her time taking care of her family. On Saturdays, she would bake bread and lemon twists and at other times she would make caramel rolls or popcorn balls. She was also a wonderful cook, making chicken for the Sunday dinner meal after mass. No matter how busy she was cooking, she could always find time to help her children with their homework. When grandchildren began arriving, she spoiled them whenever she could. She delighted in tickling them and pinching their cheeks no matter how old they got.
In her free time, Nella loved watching soap operas especially Days of Our Lives and Guiding Light. She also enjoyed crocheting and working on crosswords. Nella was a charter member of the Daughters of Isabella Queen of Sorrows Circle and later a member of the Our Lady of Snow Circle. Nella's easy going way will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Nella passed away Friday, March 2, 2007 at the Grace Home in Graceville, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents, Edwin and Florence; daughter, Catherine Heck; granddaughter, Karen Schmidt; grandson, Riley Jorschumb; brother, Frank; and three sisters, Gertrude, Elizabeth, and Marie.
