Mass of Christian Burial for Antone H. "Bud" Van Hout, age 80, of Milbank, will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 2, 2008, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Father Ken Lulf will be the celebrant. Bud died on Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at the Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls. The organist will be Nancy Johnson and special music will be provided by the St. Lawrence Funeral Choir. Family members are asked to meet in the church chapel by 10:30 a.m. Friday to attend his funeral mass. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Thursday from 3-5 p.m. Visitation will continue in the church on Friday one hour prior to services. There will be a Scripture service and Rosary in the church at 7:00 p.m. Thursday. Honorary pallbearers will be all of his other nephews and nieces. Active pallbearers will be Rick Hermans, Randy Folk, Dan Kasuske, Wayne Van Hout, Ken Hermans, and Nick Folk.
Burial will be in the parish cemetery with military graveside rites presented by the Grant County VFW Post #3486 and the Birch-Miller American Legion Post #9 of Milbank.
Antone Harry Van Hout was born on April 13, 1928, in Milbank, SD, the son of August and Pearl (Smith) Van Hout. He attended Melrose #9 country school through the eighth grade. He was a Korean War veteran having served his country in the U.S. Army from March 28, 1951, until his honorable discharge on March 27, 1953. Bud farmed on the family farm. Later, he worked for Annett Construction in Milbank as a heavy equipment operator for eleven years and, after that, for the Grant County Highway Dept. as a shop maintenance foreman until his retirement.
He was a faithful member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Bud was also a member of the Birch-Miller American Legion Post #9. He was a quiet and unassuming man who was like a "grandpa" to his many nephews and nieces. Bud especially enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include two brothers and three sisters: Jerry Van Hout and wife Joyce; Joe Van Hout; Mary Whiting; Lucille Folk and husband Albert; and Annabelle Kasuske, all of Milbank; and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Kenneth Van Hout, two sisters, Rosella Hermans and Madonna Van Hout; three brothers-in-law, Eldon Kasuske, Clifford Hermans, and Orvin Whiting; and one sister-in-law, Diane Van Hout.
