Funeral services for former Milbank, SD, resident, Alvin "Red" Smith, age 77, of Hayward, CA, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, August 2, 2006, at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank. The Reverend James L. Wiese will officiate. The family requests that memorials be directed to the Arthritis Foundation, 203 Willow St., #201, San Francisco, CA 94109. The organist will be Sylvia Konstant. Visitation will be at the funeral home on Wednesday one hour before services. Pallbearers will be family members. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery, Milbank, SD.
Alvin was born on June 20, 1929, in Milbank, SD, the son of Fred and Nora (Fouts) Smith. He attended school in Milbank. Red was a resident of Fremont, CA, until 1965 when he moved to Hayward. He was a custodian for the Fremont Unified School District in Fremont, CA. Red enjoyed fishing, traveling, and going to flea markets.
Survivors include one sister, Mary Buus and her husband Edward, Madera, CA; one sister-in-law, Joan Smith, Milbank; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Donald H. "Ducky" Smith.
