Mass of Christian Burial for Allen J. "Al" Kubousek, age 64, of Big Stone Lake, rural Big Stone City, SD, will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 2, 2007, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank. Father Ken Lulf will be the celebrant and Father Dana Christensen will be the concelebrant. Al died on Thursday, December 28, 2006, at the Milbank Area Hospital/Avera Health. Family members are asked to meet in the church chapel by 10:00 a.m. Tuesday to attend services. The organist will be Sandy Tucholke, the soloist will be Deb Rausch, and the St. Lawrence Funeral Choir will provide special music. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Monday, January 1, 2007, beginning at 5:00 p.m. followed by a Scripture service at 7:00 p.m. Pallbearers will be Marvin, Leonard, Jack, and Dale Kubousek; Trevor Cramer, Dr. Ron Wyatt, and Anthony Wyatt. Burial will be in the Milbank City Cemetery.
Allen James Kubousek was born on February 7, 1942, at Forest River, North Dakota, the son of John and Ann (Tupa) Kubousek. He grew up on the family farm near Forest River. Al graduated from Forest River High School in 1960 and from the University of North Dakota at Grand Forks, ND, with a degree in Business Administration. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1965-67 during the Vietnam War.
Al was united in marriage to Lynda Lofthus on July 6, 1967, at Minto, ND. Following marriage the couple resided in Jamestown, ND, where Al worked for Otter Tail Power Company in their office there from 1967-73. He then continued to work for Otter Tail Power Company in Hallock, MN from 1973-80 and in Canby, MN from 1980-82. In 1982 they moved to Milbank where Al was a Division Manager for Otter Tail Power Company and later was a lobbyist for Otter Tail Power in the Minnesota State Legislature. Following his retirement, he worked in the insurance field until working as an insurance agent for Trevor L. Cramer in his American Family Insurance agency in Milbank.
He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Milbank, the Elks Club in Jamestown, ND, and the Birch-Miller American Legion Post #9 in Milbank. Al was active in many civic activities in all of the communities that he resided in.
Survivors include his wife Lynda, Big Stone Lake, rural Big Stone City, SD; his two sons, Kirk J. Kubousek and wife Melissa, St. Paul, MN, and Kyle Kubousek and special friend Sherri Knittel, both of Watertown, SD; his mother, Mrs. Ann Kubousek, Grafton, ND; his sister, Sharon Marvin, Andover, MN; his four brothers, Marvin Kubousek, Dickinson, ND; Leonard Kubousek and wife Lynn, Grafton, ND; Jack Kubousek, Forest River, ND; and Dale Kubousek, Mitchell, SD; and several other relatives.
His father preceded him in death.
