Alice Stueve

Alice Agnes Thomas was born on February 4, 1937 in Breckenridge, MN, to Helmith and Elizabeth (Brockhaus) Thomas. Alice was baptized and confirmed in Rosholt, SD. She attended Cottonwood Country School and then moved into Graceville, MN where she continued her education at St. Mary’s School.
Alice was united in marriage to Elden Stueve on September 14, 1954, at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Graceville. To this union, they were blessed with ten children: Becky, Sandy, Rick, Diane, Mary Ann, Gordon, Michelle, Terry, Barb, and Anita. Alice’s younger years were spent taking care of her family. Alice would never fall asleep knowing that one of her kids were not home, she would stay awake until they were all safe, even if it meant that Elden had to go out looking for them.
Alice enjoyed spending time embroidering, canning, visiting with her many friends, the Birthday Club, and Sunday morning brunch. She always thought about others and put their needs above her own. She was always willing to help others and was very faithful in sending cards and letters to the troops. Her son-in-law stated, “If she wasn’t married, Alice would be another Mother Teresa.”
Alice and Elden had a wonderful life together. They took many trips to California to visit relatives, and they loved to dance. In their later years, Elden and Alice would spend their nights driving around the lake. Alice would talk about their “Wednesday Night Entertainment” of getting the Northern Star, splitting the sections, and reading it.
Alice died on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at Holy Trinity Hospital in Graceville, MN having lived to reach the age of 72 years.
Alice is survived by her husband, Elden; children: Becky (DJ) Billiet, Sandy (Steve) Kirkey, Rick (Pam) Stueve, Diane (Mark) Kleindl, Gordon Stueve, Michelle (Jeff) Taffe, Terry (Deb) Stueve, Barb (Tom) Montonye, Anita (Tom) McNally; grandchildren: Shaun Billiet, Carla (Mike) Hoestra, Mike (Jodi) Billiet, Stacy Billiet, Alanna (Michael) Bezdichek, Jodi Kirkey, Brittany (finance Ryan Albus) Kirkey, Amanda (Bob) Groebner, Amber (Darin) Doschadis, Ashley (Brady) Fuhrman, Nicole (Mark) Berlinger, Melissa (finance Zak) Kleindl, Carrie (finance Brenden) Kleindl, Renee Kleindl, Scott Kleindl, Danielle Stueve, Kyle Stueve, MiKayla Taffe, Christopher (Kristie) Taffe, Matthew Taffe, Kassandra Stueve, Erika Stueve, Alissa Stueve, Austin Stueve, Molly Montonye, Jason Montonye, Mallory McNally, Zachary McNally; great-grandchildren: Kylen Billiet, Annaliese Hoekstra, Beylee and Kyler Bezdichek, Avery Kirkey, Jace Albus, Gracie, Tyler, and Dylan Groebner, Zander Doschadis, Sophie Fuhrman, Emma, Tyler, Kelly, Leah Berlinger; brothers and sisters: Loretta (Arnie) Braun, Evelyn Gaulrapp, Vessy (Gina) Thomas, Elenor Zach; sisters-in-law Ginger Thomas and Dorothy Thomas;
Alice is preceded in death by parents, daughter Mary Ann; great-grandson Isaac Berlinger; brothers Arnold, Manny and Elmer; Sisters Josephine and Sally.
