Funeral services for longtime Revillo, South Dakota area resident, Mrs. Alice Hoogshagen, age 85, of Milbank will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 25, 2008, at the LaBolt Covenant Church in LaBolt, SD. Pastor Mark Chapman will officiate. Verla Peterson will be the organist, and Teri VanBerkum will be the soloist. Alice died on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at the Milbank Area Hospital/Avera Health. Visitation will be at the Emanuel-Patterson Funeral Home in Milbank on Thursday from 4-6 p.m. and in the church Friday one hour before services. Family members are asked to meet in the church basement by 10:00 Friday to attend the service. Burial will be in the LaBolt Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Darwin Johnson, Jason Johnson, Chad Johnson, Benjamin Johnson, Craig Howrey, and Harold Tribitt.
Alice was born on September 12, 1922, in Milbank, South Dakota, the daughter of John and Mable (Buttke) Rohlfs. She grew up outside of Corona. She was united in marriage to Harvey N. Hoogshagen on September 8, 1944, in Florida. Following their marriage the couple lived in Twin Brooks, Revillo, and LaBolt. Harvey died April 2, 1984. Alice was a homemaker and enjoyed being a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. More recently she lived at Park Place and the last six weeks at the Golden Living Center in Milbank.
Mrs. Hoogshagen was a member of the United Methodist Church in Revillo until it closed and then became a member of the LaBolt Covenant Church in LaBolt.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean K. Howrey, Cody, Wyoming and Myrna Johnson and husband Marlyn, LaBolt, SD; one son, Jim Hoogshagen and wife Mary, Belle Fourche, SD; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; three brothers, Junior Rohlfs and wife Margaret, Redfield, SD; Alvin Rohlfs, West Fargo, ND; Roger Rohlfs and wife June, Corona, SD; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister-in-law, Doris Rohlfs.
