Alfred Roeder

December 24, 1929 — March 25, 2013

Alfred R. Roeder was born Dec. 24, 1929 in Swift County, Minnesota to John Roeder and Olga (Zemple) Roeder. Growing up he attended various rural schools in the Ortonville area.

In 1948 he enlisted with the US Air Force and took his Basic Training at Wichita Falls, TX. He was one of the first groups into Korea and spent one year there. After, he was stationed at Bolling Field International Airport, Washington, DC. There he was selected and assigned to work on President Eisenhower's presidential airplane.

He was honorably discharged in 1956. He received the Air Force Good Conduct medal with two oak leaf clusters. He received the Korean War Service Medal and numerous other awards and citations.

Upon discharge he moved back to the Ortonville area where he started farming with his brother, Eddie Roeder.

He married Donna Mae Nolting at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ortonville on August 30, 1958. They made their home and farmed north of Ortonville until 1980. They were blessed with the birth of three children; John, Linda and Susan. Alfred started working for the City of Ortonville with the Street and Parks department the fall of 1980. For many years he cared for the Ortonville ice skating rink and swimming pool. He retired from the City in 1994 after 14 years.

After retiring he enjoyed yard work and traveling with Donna. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and visiting with family and friends.

He was a member of the Veteran's of Foreign Wars Post #3964 in Ortonville and served as Commander for several years. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 229 in Big Stone City, SD.

Alfred died March 25, 2013 at Ortonville Hospital in Ortonville, Mn.

Alfred is lovingly remembered by: his wife Donna of Ortonville, his son John E Roeder of Ortonville, his daughters Linda Meyer of Casa Grande, AZ and Susan (Tim) Rittenour of Appleton, MN., brothers Raymond (Kaye) Roeder of Ore City, TX., Eddie (Laura) Roeder of Ortonville, his sisters Lucille Thompson of Ortonville, LaVerne Plantz area of Lacrosse, Wisconsin and Marcia Zich of St. Louis, MO., nine Grandchildren and seven Great Grandchildren.

Preceding him in death were his parents, brothers Vernen and John P. Roeder and sister Deloris Odden.
