Albert was born on Feb. 5, 1928, in rural Twin Brooks, SD, the son of Albert and Minnie (Zick) Radtke, Sr. He attended country school through the eighth grade in Grant Center Township, Grant County, SD. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country during the Korean War from October 31, 1951, until his honorable discharge on May 29, 1952. Albert married Delores Huff in 1960. They were later divorced. Delores died in 1997. Albert was united in marriage to Irene (Schwartz) Powell on March 11, 1971, at Webster, SD. Irene died on June 29, 1988. Albert took over the family homestead in Grant Center Township in 1977. He later purchased another farm. Albert was a dairy farmer and raised cattle and chickens. He stopped milking cows in 1994 but continued to farm a few acres, raise a few head of cattle, and plant a garden every year until his passing.
He was a member of the Milbank 2-Cylinder Club and especially loved John Deere tractors.
Albert loved his children and grandchildren very much. He was a big-hearted person. Albert was a friendly and outgoing person who enjoyed visiting and having coffee with his family and friends. Albert especially enjoyed visiting his family members, sharing in a bowl of popcorn, and giving his grandchildren some coins for their piggy bank and some chocolate candy. He also enjoyed attending the Twin Brooks Threshing Show and had never missed attending one since its inception.
Survivors include three daughters, LuAnn Bray and husband Dan, Milbank; Grace Radtke, Peebles, OH; and Jeanette Bray, Milbank, and his ex-son-in-law, Ted Bray, rural Milbank; one son Robert Radtke, rural Milbank; ten grandchildren; one great grandchild; eight stepchildren: William Powell and wife Jan, Ortonville, MN; Richard Powell, Sioux Falls, SD; Susan Cox and husband Robert, El Paso, TX; Marvin Powell and wife Dawn, Milbank; Sadie Madison, Clear Lake, SD; Daniel Powell, Sioux Falls, SD; Phillip Powell, Phoenix, AZ, and wife Evelyn Powell, El Paso, TX; and Gladys Bohn and husband Ron, Milbank; eighteen step grandchildren; eight step great grandchildren; four sisters, Lola Malone, Ortonville, MN; Dorothy McFarland, Twin Brooks, SD; Marcella Radtke, rural Milbank; and Eleanor Steen and husband Jerome, Clinton, MN; three brothers, Wilmar Radtke and wife Janice, Annandale, MN; Allen J. Radtke and Arthur G. Radtke and wife Judy, all of rural Twin Brooks, SD; and several nieces and nephews.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents, his two wives; one infant daughter, Janelle Radtke, and two stepchildren, Charlotte Goulet and Larry Powell.
